The "In Memory Of" section is dedicated to those who served their Country in time of War and were either assigned, attached or associated (Honorary) as members of the 228th Supply and Service Company (Direct Support) 1966-1973. Data is based on known and/or researched information via the Internet, Ancestry.com, Death notices and Social Security Death Index, VA Records, National Cemetery Burials, Surviving Family Members and posted Obituaries. The last known highest rank achieved in active service is provided on first line, with the second line reflecting rank while associated with the 228th in Republic of Vietnam. *Review of Death Certificate 4 Nov 66 indicates NASSER was a member of 228th. Final Report Mortuary Affairs 16 Nov 66 indicates NASSER was a member of 624th S&S Co (DS). Review of 228th MR 4 Nov 66 does not list NASSER as KIA. Why? Although NASSER physically in Tay Ninh with 228th there were no Orders from 266th with NASSER assigned, attached or TDY by orders. Review of 624th S & S Co (DS) MR 4 Nov 66 indicates NASSER "Duty to died from concussion results from hostile mortar attack with 228th S&S Co". This means 624th had no orders from 266th with NASSER assigned, TDY or attached to 228th from 266th either. If they did, the entry would have read "Duty from TDY or attached to 228th (Ref MR and date of such orders, etc!) Both Company Clerks (228th and 624th) handled their respective MR's correctly. The fault and embarrassment of this matter falls directly upon the 266th S&S BN (DS) for failing to issue proper orders to either Company regarding status of NASSER and his proper assigned status and location. As such, NASSER, although physically with the 228th remained technically "assigned to 624th". So, official documentation (Death Certificate - Final Report - 29th General Support Group are all in conflict with actual events. The only true and correct entries regarding NASSER were accomplished at the Company level by the Company Clerks of the 228th and 624th S&S Co (DS) Companies...resulting in Final Report by Mortuary Affairs that NASSER was indeed "assigned" to 624th not the 228th while NASSER was physically in Tay Ninh. The Final Report dodges the question of location of death by stating NASSER died in base camp (location not named) when he passed from hostile Mortar Attack. Technically NASSER died in Tay Ninh while with the 228th, but assigned to 624th. Since neither Company had orders regarding NASSER from superior command (266th) the 624th carried NASSER as present in Long Binh. The 228th did not carry NASSER at all, pending Orders which never materialized from 266th.....ABN 22 June 2011....Note: the same and similar situation exists for 2 enlisted personnel WIA (Wounded in Action) within 228th. No orders accounting for these 2 enlisted were ever issued by 266th, so they were not accounted for on 4 November 1966 Morning Report of 228th either.
